Tax season has begun and you may be wondering where you can find your tax documents. Have no fear, Reliance Tax Group is here to help! We’ve put together a list of where you can find some of the most common documents you’ll need to file your taxes.

Where Do I Find My Tax Documents?

First up, make sure you’ve gathered all of your personal information. Social security numbers for yourself and your spouse, if you received a stimulus check – you’ll need the amount received, and your bank account and routing number. Most of these should be easily located in your home or on your bank’s website/app.

If you are currently paying for childcare, check with your provider to make sure you get a copy of the records. That is easily accomplished by giving them a call or checking your online account (if you have one).

Next up, you’ll need to locate your documents for income. If your employer has not yet given you your W-2, check the IRS website for more information on how to obtain your W-2.

If you’re on unemployment, you should have received Form 1099-G. If you have not yet received this document, you can check your state’s website for an electronic version.

For self-employed individuals, you’ll need to obtain a 1099. If you haven’t yet received this document, contact the contractor first. If you still cannot obtain your 1099, go to the IRS website here to request a copy. You’ll also need to check with your bank or online account to gather receipts and statements for expenses.
