It’s that time of year again…the dreaded tax season.  Taxpayers across the United States are receiving an alphabet soup of forms and statements and simultaneously having to gather all their expenses, write offs, receipts and so on.   When it comes to this time, we like to post reminders and information bits to help future clients and taxpayers understand their deadlines and filing requirements.

Due Date:

2016 was an interesting year as April 15th is on a Saturday.  Therefore, for the 2016 year, Tax Day is April 17th, 2017.

*Certain states excluded

Extension:

If you are unable to complete your return by the due date, submit Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File, in lieu of your income tax return by April 17th, 2017.  This will automatically allow a 6 month extension for you to file your tax return.  The new due date will be October 16th, 2017.
Individuals: If you did not pay your 2016 income tax through withholding (or you did not pay enough tax that way), you must make an estimated tax payment for 2016
